Frigate Presents: Art as a Strategic Asset: Preview and Presentation Event

2025-08-18 23:20
On 18 June 2025, Frigate Auction House hosted a private preview and presentation event at a historic 18th-century mansion on Radishchevskaya Street. This private event showcased works from private collections, including contemporary paintings, antiques, and high-quality contemporary jewellery. As well as offering an opportunity to exchange impressions and appreciate the aesthetics of the works on display, the event aimed to facilitate discussion on a key topic: art as a strategic asset for the future.

All of the items displayed at the event were carefully selected from private collections with the aim of demonstrating not only their cultural value, but also their potential as investment instruments that can protect and grow capital in a rapidly changing world.

The event was moderated by Natalia Guseva, whose qualifications include a PhD in Economics, a Doctorate in Social Sciences, and a professorship at the Higher School of Economics, as well as a doctorate from Paris Dauphine University. Thanks to her expertise, guests were able to engage in in-depth discussions about issues that will be relevant not only today, but also in the coming decades:

  • Authenticity in Question: How to Recognise Authentic Works in the Age of Copies. Speaker: Sergey Tepliakov (artist, collector, and entrepreneur).
  • Investing in Passion: Why It Is Worth Investing in Art. Speaker: Natalia Bozhok, Vice President of a major Russian bank.
  • Investing in Fine Jewellery: Investment-Grade Jewellery That Is Becoming Part of a New Asset Class. A presentation by SOKOLOV ATELIER, leader of the Russian jewellery market.
  • Living With Art: The Experience of a Private Collector. Home as a Reflection of Personality. How to Express Personality in Interior Design. Speaker: Evgenia Khodakova, designer, architect, collector, and entrepreneur.

The speakers discussed how art can not only retain its value in times of economic turmoil but also help resolve critical financial and legal issues. In times of global change and instability, such as sanctions and uncertainty in the global markets, art can become a reliable and strategically important asset, capable of protecting capital from inflation, currency risks, and global crises.

As the guests pointed out, it was a discussion about the future, which, for some, has already arrived. In this context, art becomes more than just a symbol of cultural value; it is also an important element of financial strategy which can be used to protect capital, improve liquidity, and even facilitate inheritance planning. In an era of unprecedented change, carefully selected artworks can form part of innovative financial solutions, offering benefits such as tax optimisation and facilitating international transactions.

The exceptional atmosphere of the event was further enhanced by a complimentary buffet, which encouraged guests to mingle and exchange opinions. Discussions focused not only on current trends, but also on how art can be effectively utilised to address business challenges and develop financial strategies for the future. Frigate is a community of experts and professionals who are already operating within a new reality where they are actively shaping the future, rather than simply anticipating it. We make decisions that for many remain in the realm of theory, relying on facts, experience, and analytical intuition to open up new horizons of opportunity where others see only uncertainty.
